Some Relief Congress passed a sweeping $2.3 trillion spending package that provides additional coronavirus relief while funding the government through the end of the fiscal year. The bill, which includes $900 billion in aid, is considered to be one of the most expensive economic rescue packages in modern history. As it heads to President Trump's desk for approval, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Americans can expect to receive their $600 stimulus checks as early as next week. For more, read on. No Reason Attorney General William Barr said he didn’t “see any reason to appoint a special counsel” to oversee the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into Hunter Biden or to investigate claims of election fraud. Barr also backed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's assessment that Russia was behind the massive recent hack of federal agencies. This came after President-elect Joe Biden’s son announced this month that he's under federal investigation over potential tax issues. The president had seized on the news arguing that Barr should’ve made the investigation public before the election. A Blockbuster Challenge? Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to the breakout hit, will be released on Christmas Day, both in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. It’s the first of Warner Bros.’ big-budget films to test that dual-release approach, which has rocked the industry and angered some (log-in needed). So far, it’s off to an underwhelming start, with box-office sales in China falling below expectations. In an interview with the NYT, director Patty Jenkins said she’s unsure if she’d return for a third film unless the studio commits to a theatrical model. Catch the rest of her interview here. (log-in needed) ‘Justified’ Thirty-two years after 270 passengers on Pan Am Flight 103 were killed, the Justice Department announced new charges in the terrorist bombing. Former Libyan intelligence officer Abu Agela Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi was charged with building the bomb that detonated on the plane over Lockerbie, Scotland. The bombing remains the single deadliest terror attack in the U.K. A sister of one of the victims said her family felt “justified, vindicated.” Daily Special ![]() Sarah Sanders was diagnosed earlier this year with breast cancer. She found herself “thinking and overthinking” things while dealing with her illness and the isolation brought about by the pandemic. To get into a better mindset, she started looking into adopting a dog, but hesitated for months before taking the plunge and finding a 9-year-old husky/lab mix she named Sadie. “She’s reminded me I’m still me, just by simply being ‘man’s—or in this case, woman’s best friend,’” Sarah says.
